How this is calculated
Adding or subtracting calendar months is not the same as adding a fixed number of days, because months have different lengths (28–31 days). This calculator advances the month number by 6 (or retreats it by 6 for the "before" direction) while keeping the same day of the month. If the target month is shorter than the starting day — for example, 31 January plus 6 months would land on 31 July, but 31 August minus 6 months would need 31 February — the result is clamped to the last valid day of that month.

Because of month-length variation, 6 months is not exactly 182 or 183 days in every case — it depends on which months are crossed.
