Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Age in hours = floor(milliseconds since birth ÷ 3,600,000). Both dates are taken at midnight so the result counts 24 hours per calendar day. A 36-year-old has lived roughly 315,000–316,000 hours. Enter your birth date and today's date for the exact total.

Formula
Age in hours = floor((referenceDate − birthDate) in ms ÷ 3,600,000)
How this is calculated

The calculator computes the millisecond gap between the birth date (at local midnight on that day) and the reference date (at local midnight) then divides by 3,600,000 — the number of milliseconds in one hour — and floors to a whole number. Because both dates are treated as midnight-to-midnight, the result counts 24 hours per calendar day and does not account for the exact birth time, which is usually unknown.

To find your true age in hours you would need to know and enter your exact birth time. Since most people do not have that precision, the calculator treats every day as exactly 24 hours from midnight. If your birth date and reference date are the same calendar day, the result is 0 hours. The "hours within the current day" stat shows the remainder after converting total hours into complete days (i.e., totalHours mod 24), which is always 0 when using midnight-to-midnight dates.

Leap years and daylight saving time changes are absorbed in the raw millisecond difference. Leap seconds are not tracked by JavaScript's Date API and are not counted, but for practical age purposes this is negligible.

Frequently asked questions

The calculator uses calendar dates (YYYY-MM-DD) as inputs, not timestamps with a time component. Without a birth time, it assumes midnight (00:00:00 local). A person born at noon on their birthday would be 12 hours older than the displayed figure at midnight on the same reference day. Enter time-specific values by using the day-level total and adjusting manually for the known birth time.

Very slightly — a spring-forward day has 23 hours and a fall-back day has 25 hours. Over many years these roughly cancel out, but the raw millisecond difference may be off by a few hours from a simple "days × 24" calculation. The calculator uses the true millisecond gap, so it reflects actual elapsed time including DST shifts.

A 36-year-old is approximately 36 × 365.25 × 24 ≈ 315,576 hours old (with leap year adjustment). Enter your own birth date to get the exact figure, which accounts for every leap year and DST change in your lifetime.
