How does this calculator work?

Divide your age in Earth days by each planet's orbital period to get your age in that planet's years. Mercury's year is 88 days, so a 30-year-old has lived ~124 Mercury years. Neptune's year is ~165 Earth years, so the same person is only 0.18 in Neptune years. Orbital periods used are J2000 mean values from NASA JPL.

How this is calculated

A "year" on any planet is simply the time it takes that planet to complete one orbit around the Sun. The calculator converts your age from Earth days into each planet's year using J2000 mean orbital periods: Mercury 87.97 days, Venus 224.70 days, Mars 686.97 days, Jupiter 4 332.59 days, Saturn 10 759.22 days, Uranus 30 688.5 days, and Neptune 60 195 days. These are the long-term average values published by NASA JPL and are accurate to better than 0.1 day over human timescales.

The calculation divides the total elapsed Earth days between your birth date and the reference date by each planet's orbital period. Because no rounding or calendar alignment is done, the results are continuous decimal values. "2.5 Mars years" means you have completed two and a half of Mars's orbits around the Sun since you were born — you are not 2.5 Earth-years old on Mars in any biological sense.

The comparison is purely orbital and physical: your biological ageing rate does not change, and planets do not have calendar systems of their own. Astronomers do use "Martian year" in planetary science (one Mars year ≈ 1.88 Earth years), and robotic missions are tracked in Martian sols and years. This calculator is a fun, educational tool.

Frequently asked questions

In the everyday sense, no. Biological ageing depends on biochemistry, not orbital periods. The number here is only how many of that planet's orbits have elapsed since your birth. Relativistic time dilation on planetary surfaces is also negligible at Solar System distances.

Mercury orbits the Sun every 87.97 Earth days — less than 3 Earth months. So in one Earth year you accumulate roughly 4.15 Mercury years. A 30-year-old has lived through about 124 Mercury orbits.

Neptune takes about 164.8 Earth years to orbit the Sun once. A person who is 30 Earth years old has not even completed one-fifth of a single Neptune year (30 ÷ 164.8 ≈ 0.18 Neptune years).
