How this is calculated

Standard beer pong uses 10 cups per side arranged in a triangle (4–3–2–1), with each cup partially filled — typically 1–3 fl oz. When a ball lands in a cup, the opposing team drinks that cup. The calculator multiplies cups per side by 2 (both teams) by the fill volume and the number of games to give the total fluid ounces needed, assuming all cups are eventually consumed.

Standard drink calculations follow the US definition: one standard drink contains 0.6 fl oz (14 g) of pure alcohol, equivalent to 12 fl oz of 5% beer. Each cup's alcohol content is oz × ABV ÷ 100, divided by 0.6 to convert to standard drinks. Dividing the per-game total by the number of players gives an estimate per person — though in practice the losing team drinks more than the winners.

These figures are estimates. Real games vary: not every cup is sunk in every game, re-racks change pace, and house rules differ. Always drink responsibly and never drive after drinking.

The standard setup is 10 cups per side arranged in a 4–3–2–1 triangle, for a total of 20 cups in play. Some house rules use 6 or 15 cups per side. Re-racks (rearranging remaining cups) are typically offered at 6 and 3 cups remaining.

House rules vary widely. A common fill is 1–2 fl oz per cup using a 10-cup setup — enough to share about one beer between all 10 cups on a side. Some setups use a separate "drinking beer" while the cups hold water, with players drinking from cans when a cup is sunk.

With the defaults (10 cups per side, 2 fl oz per cup, 5% ABV, 2 players per team), each game works out to about 0.8 standard drinks per player if all 20 cups are consumed. This can rise quickly with heavier fills or more games, so pace yourself and alternate with water.
