How does this calculator work?
Bowling average = total pins ÷ games played. Enter your scores (0–300 each, comma-separated) to get the mean, high game and low game. The result rounds to one decimal place, matching standard league convention. No minimum number of games is required.
Formula
How this is calculated
Enter the final score of each completed game as a comma-separated list. Scores must be between 0 and 300 — any value outside that range is ignored. The calculator sums all valid scores and divides by the count to produce the arithmetic mean, which is the standard "pin average" used in organised league play.
In league bowling, an official average usually requires a minimum number of games (commonly 12 or more). This calculator places no minimum, so it works equally for a single evening or a full season. The result rounds to one decimal place, matching the convention used in most sanctioned leagues and most bowling management software.
To estimate your handicap, many leagues use the formula: Handicap = 0.9 × (Base − Average), where the base is typically 200 or 220. Check your league's specific rules for the exact base score and percentage, as these vary between associations.
Frequently asked questions
Divide the total pins knocked down across all games by the number of games. Three games of 150, 175 and 200 give 525 total pins and an average of 175. Most leagues round to one decimal place.
Casual bowlers typically average 100–150. Regular league bowlers often fall between 140 and 180. Averages above 200 are advanced, and 300 is a perfect game. Most amateur leagues have averages clustered in the 150–175 range.
Only the final game score is needed — the calculator does not need to know how individual frames were played. Enter the total score (0–300) for each complete game and it will compute the average.
