How this is calculated

The Celsius scale is the world's most widely used temperature scale in everyday life and science. Its two defining reference points are the freezing point of pure water (0 °C) and its boiling point (100 °C) at standard atmospheric pressure. Converting to Fahrenheit requires multiplying by the scale factor 9/5 (because one Celsius degree equals 9/5 of a Fahrenheit degree) and then adding 32 to shift the zero point.

Kelvin is the SI unit of thermodynamic temperature. It uses the same degree size as Celsius but starts at absolute zero — the coldest possible temperature — which is −273.15 °C. Adding 273.15 to any Celsius value gives Kelvin directly. Rankine is the absolute scale that uses Fahrenheit-sized degrees: it shares the same zero as Kelvin but each step is the smaller Fahrenheit degree, so °R = K × 9/5.
