Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Days remaining = deadline − today; work days = count of Mon–Fri in that span; work hours = work days × hours per day. Progress = (today − start) / (deadline − start). Enter start date, deadline date and hours per day to get calendar days, work days, work hours and percentage elapsed.

Formula
Calendar days remaining = deadline − today • Work days = count of Mon–Fri from today to deadline • Progress = (today − start) / (deadline − start)
How this is calculated

The calculator computes the difference between today's date and the deadline in milliseconds and converts it to calendar days by dividing by 86,400,000. This is the raw "days left" figure, independent of weekends or holidays.

Work days (business days) are counted by iterating day by day from today to the deadline and skipping Saturdays and Sundays. Multiplying work days by your working hours per day gives the total billable or productive hours available. This count does not account for public holidays (which vary by country), so subtract any holidays manually.

The progress fraction — elapsed time divided by total span from start to deadline — shows at a glance how far into the project window you already are. A deadline with 30% of calendar days remaining but 60% of the period elapsed signals an urgent catch-up.

Frequently asked questions

The calendar days figure includes weekends. The "work days" figure counts only Monday–Friday. Public holidays are not automatically excluded because they vary by country and organisation — subtract them manually from the work days count.

The progress fraction uses today's date relative to the start date you entered. If you set the start date in the future, progress will be 0% until that date arrives. If you set it in the past, the elapsed fraction reflects time already gone.

Set your planned work hours per day (e.g. 6 h). Multiply that by work days remaining to get total work hours available. For example, 10 work days at 6 h/day = 60 hours of productive time left.
