Glove Size Calculator — US, EU & Letter Size from Hand Circumference
Measure around the widest part of your hand across the knuckles (excluding the thumb) and enter the circumference in centimetres or inches. The calculator returns your US glove size, EU size, and letter size (XS to 2XL) for work gloves, latex/nitrile gloves, and fashion gloves.

How does this calculator work?
US glove size = hand circumference in inches (rounded to nearest ½"). EU size = circumference in cm (rounded). Measure around the knuckles of your dominant hand, excluding the thumb. Letter sizes: XS < 7", S 7–7.5", M 7.5–8.5", L 8.5–9.5", XL 9.5–10.5", 2XL > 10.5".
Formula
How this is calculated
Glove sizing is based on a single key measurement: the circumference of the dominant hand around the knuckles, taken at the widest point excluding the thumb. In the US and UK system this circumference in inches is used directly as the size number — a 8-inch circumference means a size 8 glove. Brands sometimes round to whole or half sizes. The European system uses the same measurement in centimetres, resulting in sizes like 18, 20, 22, etc.
For mass-market gloves (work, latex, nitrile, ski) manufacturers map these numeric sizes to letter categories: XS up to about 7 inches (18 cm), S 7–7.5 inches, M 7.5–8.5 inches, L 8.5–9.5 inches, XL 9.5–10.5 inches, and 2XL above 10.5 inches. These ranges are industry norms but are not standardised — different brands, especially fashion gloves and specialist cut-resistant gloves, may use slightly different breakpoints. When buying, also consider glove length (gauntlet, wrist-length, finger-length) and material stretch; thicker insulated gloves typically run one size smaller.
For the most accurate measurement, use a flexible tape measure (or a strip of paper that you then measure against a ruler). Measure around the widest part of the palm, just below the knuckles, with the hand flat and fingers together.
Frequently asked questions
Wrap a strip of paper or string around your knuckles (widest part, excluding thumb), mark where it overlaps, then lay it flat against a ruler. This gives your circumference in cm or inches just as accurately as a tape measure.
The numeric standard (circumference in inches = US size) applies to most work, latex and fashion gloves. Some brands, especially for sports or specialist protective gloves, use proprietary size charts. Always check the manufacturer's size guide if available.
For latex or nitrile examination gloves, which stretch, size down if in doubt — a snug fit improves dexterity. For leather or cut-resistant work gloves, size up for comfort and to allow movement. For insulated gloves, size up to allow for a liner.
