How does this calculator work?
Subtract your date of birth from any past date, counting completed years, then remaining months, then remaining days. Enter your birthday and the target date and the calculator does the exact calendar arithmetic for you.
Formula
How this is calculated
The calculator uses exact calendar arithmetic: it subtracts the birth year from the target year to get full years, then adjusts backward for any partial month and day. If the target date falls before the birthday in that year (e.g. born 15 June, target 1 March), the years count is reduced by one and the remaining months count up from the previous birthday.
Total days is the raw day count between the two dates, computed from the millisecond difference (86,400,000 ms per day). Total weeks is that count divided by 7 and rounded down. Both dates are treated as midnight local time, so daylight-saving transitions do not shift the result.
This is the same calculation as "how old am I" but with a past target date instead of today, which is useful for finding your age at historical events, when a family member was born, when you started school, or any moment in the past.
Frequently asked questions
Enter your date of birth and the past date. The calculator counts the full years, months and days between them using exact calendar arithmetic — the same logic used in official documents.
No — the target date must be on or after the date of birth, otherwise there is no valid age to show. If you enter an earlier date the calculator shows a warning instead.
Age counts only completed years. If your birthday falls after the target date in a given year, you had not yet reached that birthday, so the years count is one lower. For example, born on 15 June: on 1 March of any year you are still in the previous age year.
