How does this calculator work?
Buddy candy earned = ⌊km walked ÷ km per candy⌋. Egg progress = km walked ÷ egg distance. Enter your walked distance, buddy distance, and candy target to see exactly how many km remain — useful for planning walking routes or Adventure Sync sessions.
Formula
How this is calculated
In Pokémon GO, buddy candy is earned by walking a set distance per candy — typically 1 km, 3 km, or 5 km depending on the Pokémon species. The game credits full candies only when you cross each threshold, so the formula is the floor division of distance walked by km-per-candy. Walking is tracked via GPS or Adventure Sync (pedometer/Health app), which may differ slightly from actual distance due to GPS noise and indoor movement not being counted.
Egg hatching works the same way: each egg has a fixed required distance (2, 5, 7, 10 or 12 km), and the progress bar fills as you walk. Adventure Sync eggs (7 km and 12 km) only hatch distance when the app is closed. Multiple eggs can hatch simultaneously from different incubators.
The calculator assumes all walking contributes equally to both the buddy and the egg — in practice, only walking with the Pokémon set as your buddy contributes to buddy candy, and distance only counts toward an egg that is placed in an incubator. Neither buddy walking nor egg distance counts when riding a vehicle above a speed threshold (roughly 10–15 km/h).
Frequently asked questions
Open the buddy profile screen and look for the "Buddy distance" field, or check a community Pokédex (e.g. Silph Road). Common distances: starters and common Pokémon 1–3 km; rarer species and Legendaries 5 km. The distance is a fixed property of the species.
Adventure Sync can count steps indoors (e.g., on a treadmill) that GPS misses, and it smooths GPS jitter. However it caps at a certain speed and only syncs periodically. In practice, Adventure Sync distances may be slightly higher or lower than live GPS tracking.
Yes — enter the candy cost of the evolution as your target. For example, a 3-stage evolution like Magikarp→Gyarados costs 400 candies; at 1 km per candy you would need to walk 400 km total (minus any already earned).
