Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Divide seconds by 60 for minutes, 3 600 for hours, 86 400 for days, 604 800 for weeks. Multiply by 1 000 for milliseconds. Month and year conversions use Gregorian averages (30.4375 d/month, 365.25 d/year). All conversions are exact except months/years.

Formula
Minutes = s ÷ 60 • Hours = s ÷ 3 600 • Days = s ÷ 86 400 • Milliseconds = s × 1 000
How this is calculated

The second is the SI base unit of time. All other time units are simple multiples or fractions: 1 minute = 60 s, 1 hour = 3 600 s, 1 day = 86 400 s, 1 week = 604 800 s. These conversions are exact by definition.

For months and years this calculator uses average lengths: 1 year = 365.25 days (accounting for leap years), 1 month = 365.25 ÷ 12 = 30.4375 days. These are useful approximations for long durations but may differ by 1–3 days from any specific calendar month or year.

The h:mm:ss breakdown truncates to whole seconds, which is useful for displaying log timestamps, stopwatch results or video durations in a human-readable format. Fractional seconds are visible in the minutes and milliseconds rows.

Frequently asked questions

Exactly 3,600 seconds — 60 seconds per minute × 60 minutes per hour. This is an exact, defined relationship with no rounding involved.

A standard day has exactly 86,400 seconds (24 × 60 × 60). Leap seconds are occasionally added by international time authorities to keep UTC aligned with Earth's rotation, but these are not included in everyday time arithmetic.

Calendar months vary from 28 to 31 days, and years alternate between 365 and 366 days. This calculator uses the Gregorian calendar average of 365.25 days/year and 30.4375 days/month, which gives accurate results for multi-year spans but may be off by a few days for a single specific month.
