Weight Week by Week Calculator — Track Your Progress

Enter your starting weight, current weight, goal weight, and the number of weeks since you began. The calculator works out your average weekly rate of change and projects how many more weeks it will take to reach your goal — and charts the whole journey.

Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Divide total weight changed by weeks elapsed to get your average weekly rate; divide remaining weight to goal by that rate for the weeks remaining. For example: lost 8 lb in 4 weeks = 2 lb/week; 30 lb still to go ÷ 2 lb/week = 15 more weeks to reach goal.

Formula
Weekly rate = (Start − Current) ÷ Weeks elapsed • Weeks remaining = (Current − Goal) ÷ Weekly rate
How this is calculated

The calculator treats your weight change as a linear trend: it divides the total weight lost (or gained) by the number of weeks elapsed to find your average weekly rate. That rate is then applied forward to estimate how many additional weeks it will take to close the remaining gap to your goal.

The chart shows the actual path you have already travelled (solid portion, weeks 0 to now) and the projected trajectory at your current rate (dashed portion, from now to goal). If your rate is very slow or moving in the wrong direction the projected end date will be very far out or undefined.

Health professionals typically recommend a sustained loss rate of 0.5–1 lb (0.25–0.5 kg) per week as a safe and maintainable target; rates above 2 lb/week can signal inadequate nutrition. The estimates here are purely mathematical — consult a healthcare provider for personalised advice.

Frequently asked questions

Body weight fluctuates by 1–3 lb daily due to hydration, food volume, and sodium. For the most accurate weekly rate, weigh yourself on the same day, at the same time of day (ideally first thing in the morning), and use a multi-week average rather than comparing single readings.

Enter the actual numbers — the calculator handles weight gain too. The 'lost so far' will show a negative value and the projected weeks will indicate you need to reverse direction before reaching your goal.

It extrapolates your historical average forward in a straight line. Real weight loss is rarely linear — it often slows as you get lighter and closer to goal. Treat the estimate as a directional guide, not a precise deadline.
