Find your grade with: grade = (school year − birth year) − 5, where 0 = Kindergarten and 12 = senior year. Born in 1992, school year 2001: age 9, so 9 − 5 = 4th Grade. The September 1 cutoff may shift you one grade lower if you were born in the fall.

In the US, children typically start Kindergarten at age 5, meaning that for someone born in a given year the age at the start of any later fall semester is (target year − birth year). Subtracting 5 converts that age to a grade level: 0 for Kindergarten, 1 for 1st grade, up to 12 for 12th grade (senior year of high school).
The calculation assumes the standard September 1 enrolment cutoff: children who turn 5 before September 1 of a given year start Kindergarten that fall. If you were born after September 1, your actual grade may be one year lower than shown — adjust the school year by one to account for this. The "school year" field expects the fall year (e.g. enter 2001 for the 2001–2002 school year).
Grade systems differ internationally. The K-12 result here follows the US/Canadian system. In the UK, add one to the US grade for the equivalent Year (e.g. US 4th Grade ≈ UK Year 5). For countries with different school-starting ages, use the displayed age as your reference and match it to your local grade structure.
