Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Count every Monday through Friday in a date range and subtract public holidays on weekdays. Both start and end dates are included. Enter the number of local public holidays falling on weekdays to get the net working-day count. No built-in holiday calendar — enter your own count.

Formula
Working days = Weekdays in range − Public holidays on weekdays
How this is calculated

The calculator uses a formula-based approach to count Monday-through-Friday days in the date range without iterating every single day. It calculates the number of complete weeks in the range (each contributing exactly five weekdays) and then counts the weekdays in the remaining partial week based on the day-of-week the range starts on. Both the start date and end date are included in the count.

Public holiday deduction is manual: enter the number of public holidays falling on weekdays in your range and the calculator subtracts them. It has no built-in knowledge of any country's holiday calendar — holiday schedules differ by country, state, and employer — so you provide the count for maximum flexibility. If the holiday count you enter exceeds the raw weekday count, the result is floored at zero.

All dates are treated as whole calendar days in the browser's local time zone. The calculator makes no adjustment for partial days, time zones, or leap seconds. For shift or hourly-based scheduling, convert the working-day result to hours separately.

Frequently asked questions

Yes — by default the calculator counts all weekdays (Mon–Fri), including public holidays. Enter the number of public holidays that fall on weekdays in the range to subtract them from the total.

Yes — both the start date and the end date are included. A single Monday entered as both start and end counts as one working day.

Holiday schedules differ not only by country but by region, state, and employer. Rather than maintain an incomplete or outdated list, the calculator lets you enter your own count for maximum flexibility regardless of location.
