Cricket batting strike rate = (Runs ÷ Balls faced) × 100. A T20 strike rate of 150 means 1.5 runs per ball. Benchmarks: T20 good is 120+, ODI good is 80+, Test good is 50+. Strike rate measures scoring speed; pair it with batting average for the full picture.

How this is calculated
Batting strike rate (SR) measures scoring speed: how many runs a batter scores for every 100 balls they face. It is calculated by dividing total runs by balls faced and multiplying by 100. A strike rate of 100 means exactly one run per ball, 150 means 1.5 runs per ball, and so on.
The significance of a particular strike rate depends heavily on the format. In T20 cricket — where teams bat for just 20 overs — a strike rate of 120–130 is considered good and 150+ is excellent. Scores below 100 put significant pressure on the team. In One Day Internationals (50 overs), 80–90 is solid and 100+ is aggressive. In Test cricket, where there is no batting limit, a strike rate of 50–60 is normal for reliable batters, while 70+ is considered aggressive; the key metric in Tests is batting average rather than strike rate.
Strike rate and batting average together paint the full picture: a high average with a low strike rate is a "blocker", while a low average with a high strike rate is an aggressive hitter who takes big risks. The best batters maintain both a high average and a high strike rate.

In T20, a strike rate of 120–130 is considered average for international cricket, 140–159 is good, and 160+ is outstanding. Many modern power hitters in T20 leagues maintain career strike rates above 150. A rate below 100 in T20 is generally too slow unless batting late in the innings to protect wickets.
Batting average measures how many runs a batter makes per innings (runs ÷ dismissals), reflecting reliability and endurance. Strike rate measures scoring speed (runs per 100 balls), reflecting aggression. Both together tell you whether a player is a consistent run-scorer and how quickly they score.
In Tests, there is no hard requirement for strike rate — a defensive 40 strike rate from an opener on a difficult pitch might be extremely valuable. Generally, 50–60 is typical for top-order batters, 60–70 is brisk, and 70+ is considered very attacking for a Test format where defence is often the priority.
