How this is calculated
A cube is the most symmetrical 3-D solid — all 12 edges are equal in length s, all 6 faces are identical squares, and all 8 corners are right-angle vertices. From that single measurement s, every geometric property follows directly.
Volume (V = s³) measures the space inside. Surface area (SA = 6s²) is the total exterior area — six square faces each of area s². The face diagonal crosses one square face corner to corner: s√2, derived from the Pythagorean theorem on a right triangle with two legs of length s. The space diagonal runs through the interior of the cube from one corner to the opposite corner: s√3, found by applying Pythagoras again using the face diagonal and the third edge (√((s√2)² + s²) = √(3s²) = s√3). Total edge length is 12 edges × s.
All results are in consistent units: if s is in metres, volume is m³, surface area is m², and diagonals are metres. Checking all five properties at once is useful in engineering (sizing a container), packaging design, crystal structure problems and exam preparation.

The face diagonal connects two opposite corners of a single square face and has length s√2. The space diagonal passes through the interior of the cube (not just a face) and has length s√3, which is longer.
