How does this calculator work?
Enter your bust, waist and hip measurements; the calculator finds the first US size whose chart value meets or exceeds each measurement, takes the largest, and converts it to EU (US+32) and UK (US+4). Sizing is a 2024 industry guide — try garments on, as brands vary.
Formula
How this is calculated
The calculator matches your three key measurements — bust (fullest part of chest), waist (narrowest point), and hips (fullest part below the waist) — against a standard US women's size chart. For each measurement it finds the first size whose chart value meets or exceeds yours, which ensures the garment will fit that part of your body. The final size is the largest of the three indices, so whichever dimension needs the most room sets the recommended size.
US sizes are then converted to EU (US size + 32 approximately) and UK (US size + 4 approximately) using the broadly accepted equivalence used by most international fashion brands as of 2024. Letter sizes (XS through 3XL) are mapped to US numerical ranges: XS covers US 00–0, S covers 2–4, M covers 6–8, L covers 10–12, XL covers 14–16, and XXL covers 18–20.
This is a guide based on a generalised standard chart. Real brand sizing can differ by one to two sizes in either direction. For the best fit, always try garments on before buying, or check the brand's specific size guide — especially for structured dresses where the bodice and skirt may require different sizes.
Frequently asked questions
There is no single mandatory standard for women's clothing sizes. Brands choose their own grading and ease allowances, so a US 8 at one label can be equivalent to a US 6 or 10 at another. Use this calculator as a starting point and always check a brand's own size chart or try items on.
The calculator picks the largest of the three size indices to ensure the garment fits your fullest measurement. If you are between sizes, going up is usually the safer choice — a garment that is too tight cannot be easily adjusted, whereas a slightly loose fit can often be taken in.
Use a soft measuring tape held snug but not tight. For bust, measure around the fullest part of your chest with arms relaxed. For waist, measure at the narrowest point (typically just above the belly button). For hips, stand with feet together and measure around the widest point of the hips and seat.
