How does this calculator work?

Face shape is classified by comparing four measurements: face length, forehead, cheekbone, and jaw widths. The length-to-cheekbone ratio and relative width differences place faces into six categories: oval (balanced taper), round (equal length and width, soft), square (angular jaw, equal width), heart (wide forehead, narrow jaw), diamond (wide cheekbones), or oblong (long and narrow).

How this is calculated

Face shape is determined by two things: the overall length-to-width ratio and the relative widths at the forehead, cheekbones, and jaw. Measure your face in any consistent unit — centimetres or inches both work, as only the ratios matter.

The classification logic mirrors the method widely used in beauty and facial analysis: a diamond emerges when the cheekbones are clearly the widest part; a heart shape when the forehead significantly exceeds the jaw; round or square when the face is nearly as wide as it is long (round being softer, square having a more angular jaw); oblong when length substantially exceeds width with parallel sides; and oval for balanced, gently tapered faces — the most common result.

These categories are guidelines, not rigid boxes. Most faces blend features from more than one shape, and the calculator applies a simplified rule set based on published measurement ratios. It is intended as a fun self-assessment tool, not a clinical or diagnostic instrument.

Use a flexible tape measure or a ruler and a mirror. Face length: press the tape from your hairline straight down to your chin tip. Forehead width: measure across your forehead at its widest point (roughly halfway between eyebrows and hairline). Cheekbone width: measure just below the outer corner of each eye at the widest point. Jaw width: measure across the jaw about 2–3 cm above the chin, at the widest point.

Many faces sit between two shapes — for example oval-round or square-oblong. If the result feels borderline, look in the mirror and compare: is your jaw angular or curved? Does your forehead dominate? Use the descriptions as a guide rather than a strict rule.

Oval is generally considered the most common and symmetrically balanced face shape, with a face length roughly 1.5 times the width, a slightly wider forehead than jaw, and soft angles. That said, genuine pure shapes are rare — most people's faces combine elements of two or more types.
