How does this calculator work?
A full cord of firewood is a 4 × 4 × 8 foot stack equal to 128 cubic feet. Divide your stacked pile's length × width × height (in feet) by 128 to get cords. A face cord is the same 4 × 8 foot face but only one log deep, so it varies with log length.

How this is calculated
Enter the outside dimensions of your neatly stacked woodpile — length, width and height — in either feet or meters. The calculator multiplies them to get the stacked volume in cubic feet (meters are converted at 3.2808 ft per meter). This is the gross stacked volume, which includes the air gaps between logs, exactly as cords are traditionally measured.
A full cord is defined as a stack measuring 4 ft × 4 ft × 8 ft = 128 cubic feet, so cords = stacked volume ÷ 128. A face cord (also called a rick) is one stack 4 ft high and 8 ft long but only as deep as the logs are long. Using your log length (entered in inches and converted to feet), face cords = volume ÷ (4 × 8 × log length in ft). If you enter a total price, cost per cord = price ÷ cords.
Results assume a tightly and squarely stacked pile; loosely thrown (loose-thrown) wood occupies more space for the same solid wood content. Dimensions must be positive, and cost per cord only appears when a price is given. The range meter shows what fraction of a full cord you have.
