Volume (mL) = mass (g) ÷ density (g/mL). For water: 1 g = 1.00 mL. For flour: 100 g ≈ 189 mL (density 0.529). For sugar: 100 g ≈ 118 mL (density 0.845). For honey: 100 g ≈ 70 mL (density 1.420). Select the ingredient to apply the correct density automatically.

How this is calculated
Grams and millilitres measure different things: grams measure mass (how much matter), while millilitres measure volume (how much space). The conversion factor between them is density — the mass per unit volume of the substance. Water has a density of 1.000 g/mL at room temperature, so 100 g of water occupies exactly 100 mL. But all-purpose flour has a bulk density of about 0.529 g/mL when spooned loosely into a cup, so 100 g of flour occupies around 189 mL — nearly double the volume.
This calculator divides the mass in grams by the selected ingredient's density to get the volume in millilitres. Liquids use physical densities at approximately 20 °C; dry ingredients use culinary bulk densities for standard kitchen packing (unsifted flour, loosely spooned cocoa, etc.). Sifting flour can lower its density further; tapping a cup of sugar increases its density — so minor variation from the displayed result is normal in practice.
All US cooking-unit conversions use exact legal US definitions: 1 US teaspoon = 4.929 mL, 1 US tablespoon = 14.787 mL, 1 US cup = 236.588 mL, 1 US fluid ounce = 29.574 mL. These differ from UK/Imperial measures (for example 1 UK fl oz = 28.413 mL).

Only for pure water, where density is 1.000 g/mL. For every other substance the density differs, so the gram-to-mL ratio differs too. Honey is 1.42 g/mL (1 g ≈ 0.70 mL), olive oil is 0.911 g/mL (1 g ≈ 1.10 mL), and flour is 0.529 g/mL (1 g ≈ 1.89 mL).
Volume measures like cups are sensitive to how tightly the ingredient is packed. A scooped cup of flour can weigh anywhere from 120 g to 160 g depending on technique. Grams are precise and reproducible regardless of packing — that is why serious bakers prefer weight. This converter goes the other direction for when a volume measurement is needed.
No. A US tablespoon is 14.787 mL; a UK tablespoon is 15 mL (or sometimes 17.758 mL for the older Imperial tablespoon). This converter uses US definitions throughout. For UK recipes, adjust by multiplying tablespoon counts by 15 ÷ 14.787 ≈ 1.014.
