Guinea Pig Pregnancy Calculator — Gestation Due Date
Guinea pigs have one of the longest gestation periods of any small rodent — 59 to 72 days, averaging around 68 days. Enter the number of days since mating to see how far along the pregnancy is, how many days remain until the expected due date, and a visual progress timeline.

How does this calculator work?
Guinea pigs are pregnant for 59–72 days (average ≈ 68 days). Enter the days since mating and the expected gestation length to see how many days of pregnancy remain, the percentage completed, and a visual timeline. The calculator also flags overdue pregnancies when elapsed days exceed the gestation period.
Formula
How this is calculated
Guinea pig (cavy) pregnancies are comparatively long for rodents: the normal gestation range is 59–72 days, with most litters arriving around day 63–68. Larger litters (3–4 pups) tend to be born earlier; smaller litters of one or two pups often run longer. The default gestation of 68 days is a widely used midpoint estimate — adjust it to match your vet's assessment or the sow's prior litter history.
The calculator subtracts the days elapsed since mating from the expected gestation length to give the days remaining. The progress bar fills proportionally to show where you are in the pregnancy cycle. If the elapsed days exceed the gestation period, the result switches to show how many days overdue the birth is — at that point close monitoring and a vet consultation are advisable.
Note that the exact mating date can be hard to determine unless guinea pigs are housed separately and reunited for controlled mating. If the precise date is uncertain, use the midpoint of the suspected mating window and update when better information is available. Stress, poor nutrition, and very large or very small litters can all shift the actual birth date outside the expected range.
Frequently asked questions
The typical gestation period is 59–72 days, with most births occurring around day 63–68. Larger litters of 3–4 pups tend to arrive earlier; single-pup pregnancies often run to 70+ days.
Most litters contain 2–4 pups, although single-pup and 5-pup litters do occur. Guinea pig pups are precocial — born fully furred with eyes open, able to eat solid food within hours of birth.
In the days before birth the sow may become restless, show a visibly sunken belly as pups descend, and have a palpably widened pelvic gap (a soft gap of 2–3 cm between the pubic bones). Labour itself is usually rapid — a full litter of 3–4 pups typically arrives within 30–60 minutes.
