Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Men's jeans size = waist inches × inseam inches (e.g., 32×32). EU converts the same values to centimetres. Women's US size ≈ (waist − 24) × 2 rounded to the nearest even number; UK adds 4. Enter your waist and inseam in any unit to get all three regional formats instantly.

Formula
US W = waist in inches (rounded) • US L = inseam in inches (rounded) • EU W = waist in cm
How this is calculated

Men's jeans are sized by waist width (W) and inseam length (L), both in whole inches, and the same W×L system is used in the US and the UK. A 32×32 jeans has a 32-inch waist and a 32-inch inseam. Enter your measurements in inches or centimetres, and the calculator converts them: one inch equals 2.54 cm, so a 32-inch waist is ~81 cm. The EU format typically expresses the same numbers in centimetres.

For women's jeans the US uses a numeric scale (0, 2, 4, 6 …) where each step represents roughly half an inch of waist. The calculator estimates this as US size ≈ (waist_inches − 24) × 2, rounded to the nearest even number. UK women's sizes run approximately 4 numbers above the US equivalent. These formulas are brand-averaged and will be off by ±1–2 sizes for some labels — always check the brand's specific size chart before ordering.

Inseam matters as much as waist: standard inseam lengths are 30 in (short), 32 in (regular) and 34 in (long) for most men's jeans. Women's jeans often come in S/M/L inseam options rather than exact inches, mapped roughly the same way.

Frequently asked questions

For a natural-waist measurement, wrap a tape measure around the narrowest part of your torso (just above the belly button). For a hip measurement — used by low-rise or boyfriend fits — measure at the fullest part of your hips. Check which measurement the brand's size chart calls for.

Stand straight and measure from your crotch seam to the floor (or to where you want the hem to fall). Alternatively, measure a pair of jeans that fit you well from the crotch to the bottom of the leg along the inner seam. Most adults have inseams of 28–34 inches (71–86 cm).

Jeans sizes are not standardised internationally and manufacturers use different block patterns. "Vanity sizing" also means the same labelled size can be 1–3 inches larger in reality than it was 20 years ago. When shopping online, always cross-check with the brand's exact size chart rather than relying on the number alone.
