How does this calculator work?
Score (%) = correct ÷ total × 100. Standard US letter grades: A ≥ 90%, B ≥ 80%, C ≥ 70%, D ≥ 60%, F < 60%. Set a passing threshold (typically 60–70%) for an instant pass/fail verdict. For weighted questions, enter earned points and total points instead of answer counts.

How this is calculated
A percentage grade converts raw marks into a uniform 0–100 scale: divide the number of correct answers by the total possible and multiply by 100. The calculator also maps that percentage to the standard US letter-grade scale — A (90–100%), B (80–89%), C (70–79%), D (60–69%) and F (below 60%). Scales differ by country and institution; these thresholds reflect the most common US academic standard.
The pass/fail result compares the percentage against the passing threshold you set. Common thresholds are 60% (standard US passing grade), 70% (stricter grading or professional licensing exams) or 50% (used at some universities). Adjust the threshold to match your instructor's policy or the specific exam requirement.
This calculator treats every question as having equal weight. If questions carry different point values, enter the total points you earned as "Correct" and the maximum possible points as "Total" — the percentage calculation is identical.
Frequently asked questions
Divide the number of correct answers (or points earned) by the total number of questions (or maximum points) and multiply by 100. For example, 42 out of 50 is (42 ÷ 50) × 100 = 84%.
On the standard US scale: A = 90–100%, B = 80–89%, C = 70–79%, D = 60–69%, F = below 60%. Some schools use plus/minus grades (A−, B+, etc.) with narrower bands — check your institution's grading policy for exact cutoffs.
