About this calculator

To tile a floor, divide the room area by the area of a single tile to get the base count, then add a waste allowance for cuts, off-cuts and breakages. Tile dimensions are entered in centimetres and converted to square metres, so a 30 × 30 cm tile covers 0.09 m². The result is rounded up because you cannot buy a fraction of a tile.

Frequently asked questions

Around 10% for a simple straight layout. Allow 15% or more for diagonal patterns, busy room shapes or large-format tiles.

You can only buy whole tiles, so any fractional requirement is rounded up to ensure you have enough to finish.

Enter tile width and height in centimetres; the calculator converts them to square metres to match the floor area.
