How does this calculator work?
Average round damage = Attack × [1 + critChance × (critMulti−1)] + SignPower × 0.5. Divide the monster's HP by this and round up for the number of rounds to win. Formulas are community-estimated approximations — the game does not publish its internal damage engine.
Formula
How this is calculated
The Witcher: Monster Slayer (2021, AR mobile game) does not publish its exact internal damage formulas, so this calculator uses the standard RPG damage model consistent with community gameplay observations. Each sword strike has a base damage equal to your Attack Power stat. When a critical hit occurs — happening with probability equal to your Critical Hit Chance — the strike is multiplied by the Critical Hit Multiplier (e.g. 200 % means double damage). Over many swings, the statistical average per hit is: Attack × [1 + critChance × (critMulti − 1)], where critMulti is expressed as a plain multiplier (2.0 for 200 %).
Signs provide additional area-effect or damage-over-time damage each round. The approximation used here is that a sign contributes roughly half its Sign Power stat as direct damage per combat round — this is an estimate, as the actual value depends on the sign type (Igni deals more direct damage than Quen or Axii). Combining the sword average with the sign contribution gives the expected damage per round. Dividing the monster's HP by this figure and rounding up gives the expected number of rounds to defeat it.
Actual combat in the game is affected by timed QTE events, debuffs, monster resistances, oils, potions, and other bonuses not captured here. Use these numbers as a planning estimate rather than a precise prediction.
Frequently asked questions
This calculator treats one round as a single sword strike plus one sign use. In the actual game, combat involves timed quick-time events (QTEs), and you may strike multiple times per engagement before a monster attacks back. Adjust the interpretation based on how often you use signs in your typical fight.
A multiplier of 200 % means a crit deals double your base attack power. If your in-game stat shows "Critical Hit Damage +100 %", set the multiplier to 200 %. If it shows "Critical Hit Damage +150 %", set it to 250 %, and so on.
Igni is the primary damage-dealing sign in The Witcher: Monster Slayer, dealing fire damage over time. Aard can stagger monsters and set up heavier hits, while Quen provides a protective shield. For pure damage output, maximize Igni sign power and the fire damage bonus.
