Come funziona questo calcolatore?

1 dm = 10 cm = 0.1 m = 100 mm = 0.0001 km = 3.937 in ≈ 0.328 ft. Select the source unit and enter any value; all conversions go through metres using the exact SI and international-inch factors. The decimetre is most notable because 1 dm³ = 1 litre exactly.

Formula
metres = value × factor_from; result = metres ÷ factor_to (1 dm = 0.1 m exactly)
How this is calculated

All conversions route through a single canonical unit — the metre. Each unit has an exact factor: 1 dm = 0.1 m, 1 cm = 0.01 m, 1 mm = 0.001 m, 1 km = 1000 m, 1 inch = 0.0254 m (defined exactly since the 1959 international agreement), 1 foot = 0.3048 m, 1 yard = 0.9144 m, and 1 mile = 1609.344 m. Converting from any unit to any other means multiplying by the source factor to get metres, then dividing by the target factor.

The decimetre is an SI prefix unit meaning one tenth of a metre (the prefix deci = 10⁻¹). While less common in everyday speech than centimetres or metres, it appears prominently in volume measurement — 1 cubic decimetre (dm³) equals exactly 1 litre — as well as in some European educational curricula and older technical documents.

All metric conversion factors are exact by SI definition. The inch-to-metre factor is also exact by the 1959 international treaty, making every conversion shown here exact before rounding for display.

Domande frequenti

There are exactly 10 centimetres in 1 decimetre, since 1 dm = 0.1 m and 1 cm = 0.01 m (so 1 dm = 10 cm).

1 dm = 0.1 m and 1 inch = 0.0254 m, so 1 dm = 0.1 ÷ 0.0254 ≈ 3.937 inches. Multiply decimetres by 3.937008 to get inches.

The decimetre is most used in volume measurement (1 dm³ = 1 litre exactly), in some European school curricula, and in older scientific texts. Centimetres and metres dominate most everyday contexts in the countries that use the metric system.
