How this is calculated
Epoxy resin is a two-part system: a resin (Part A) and a hardener (Part B) that react when combined in the correct ratio. The mix ratio on the product label (e.g. 2:1 by volume) means 2 parts resin for every 1 part hardener. Getting the ratio wrong causes the epoxy to remain sticky or cure improperly, so measuring accurately is critical. The calculator multiplies the mold dimensions (length × width × depth) to get the net volume in millilitres, then adds a waste allowance for drips, coating the sides and residue left in the mixing cup. This total is then split according to the mix ratio: resin volume = total × ratio ÷ (ratio + 1), hardener volume = total ÷ (ratio + 1).
Dimensions can be entered in centimetres, millimetres or inches; the calculator converts everything to cubic centimetres (1 cm³ = 1 ml) before computing. Results are shown in both millilitres and US fluid ounces (1 fl oz = 29.57 ml). The waste allowance default of 10 % is a reasonable buffer for a first pour; experienced casters often find 5 % sufficient once they have a consistent technique.
This calculator assumes a rectangular (cuboid) mold. For irregularly shaped molds, break the shape into rectangular sections and sum their volumes. Deep pours in a single layer can generate excessive heat; check your resin's maximum recommended pour depth and split very deep pours into multiple thinner layers with cure time between each.

Use the ratio printed on your specific resin product — do not guess. Common ratios are 2:1 (two parts resin to one part hardener), 3:1 and 1:1, always by volume unless the label specifies by weight. Mixing off-ratio prevents proper curing and results in sticky or brittle epoxy that cannot be fixed after it sets.
Some resin is always lost: it coats the mixing cup and stir stick, drips down the sides of the mold, and a small amount is needed to overfill slightly so the surface levels flat. A 10 % allowance is a practical buffer for beginners; reduce it once you have refined your pouring technique.
Epoxy curing generates heat (exothermic reaction). Deep single pours — typically more than 1–2 cm, though limits vary by product — can overheat and crack, yellow or warp. For thick pours, check the manufacturer's maximum single-layer depth and split into multiple thinner layers, allowing each to gel before the next.
