Greek Gematria Calculator — Isopsephy (Ισοψηφία)

Enter any Greek word or phrase to compute its isopsephy value — the sum of each letter's numerical value according to the ancient Milesian (alphabetic) numeral system. Used in classical Greek numerology, epigraphy, and New Testament studies.
Type or paste Greek letters. Spaces, punctuation and Latin characters are ignored.

Hur fungerar denna kalkylator?

Greek isopsephy assigns a number to each letter following the Milesian numeral system (Α=1, Β=2 … Θ=9, Ι=10 … Ω=800, with archaic Ϛ=6, Ϙ=90, Ϡ=900). The isopsephy value of a word is the sum of all its letter values. Enter any Greek text and the calculator sums the values and shows the per-letter breakdown.

Formel
Isopsephy = Σ value(letter_i) • Α=1 … Ϙ=90 … Ω=800
How this is calculated

Greek isopsephy (ἰσοψηφία, "equal in value") assigns a number to each letter of the Greek alphabet following the Milesian numeral system: the first nine letters (Α–Θ) represent units 1–9, the next nine (Ι–Ϙ) represent tens 10–90, and the final nine (Ρ–Ϡ) represent hundreds 100–900, giving 27 letters in total. The three archaic letters — stigma (Ϛ, value 6), koppa (Ϙ, value 90), and sampi (Ϡ, value 900) — are not part of the classical 24-letter alphabet but are required to complete the numerical sequence.

The isopsephy value of a word is simply the sum of each letter's numeral. For example, ΛΟΓΟΣ (logos) gives Λ(30)+Ο(70)+Γ(3)+Ο(70)+Σ(200) = 373. Ancient and medieval writers would compare words with the same sum as numerically equivalent or mystically linked — a practice attested in Greek magical papyri, the Sibylline Oracles, and early Christian texts including the Book of Revelation.

This calculator accepts both uppercase and lowercase modern Greek text. Non-Greek characters (Latin letters, spaces, punctuation) are silently ignored. The final sigma form (ς) is treated the same as Σ (200). Only the 27-letter gematria alphabet is used; no variant or polytonic diacritics alter the values.

Vanliga frågor

Isopsephy is the Greek tradition of summing letter-number values; gematria is the equivalent Hebrew practice. Both assign numerals to letters sequentially, but the alphabets and values differ. This calculator uses Greek isopsephy (Milesian numerals), not Hebrew gematria.

The classical Greek alphabet has 24 letters, but the Milesian numeral system needs 27 symbols (9 for units, 9 for tens, 9 for hundreds). The three extra symbols — stigma (Ϛ=6), koppa (Ϙ=90), and sampi (Ϡ=900) — are archaic letters that fell out of everyday use but were kept in the numeral system.

On most devices you can switch the keyboard layout to Greek in the operating system language settings, or copy Greek text from another source and paste it here. The calculator accepts standard Unicode Greek code points in both uppercase (Α–Ω) and lowercase (α–ω) forms.
