Hur fungerar denna kalkylator?
US import tariffs add (unit price × tariff% ÷ 100) to the cost of each imported item. Enter the pre-tariff price, the applicable rate from the HTS schedule (hts.usitc.gov), and quantity to see total landed cost and total duty. Tariff rates change by executive order — treat results as estimates and verify before committing to a trade decision.
Formel
How this is calculated
US import tariffs are percentage levies collected from the importer at the border, based on the declared customs value of the goods (typically the FOB price). The Trump administration introduced and expanded tariff schedules in 2018–2019 and again from 2025, covering a wide range of goods: broad "reciprocal" tariffs (10% as a baseline), Section 301 tariffs on Chinese goods (up to 145% on some categories), and sector-specific duties under Section 232 (steel, aluminium, cars). The exact rate depends on the product's 10-digit Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) code and the country of origin.
The calculation is straightforward: tariff amount per unit = unit price × (tariff rate ÷ 100). Add this to the unit price to get the landed unit cost, then multiply by quantity for the order total. In practice, the dutiable value may also include freight and insurance on a CIF basis, and importers face additional fees (merchandise processing fee, harbour maintenance fee), but the FOB-based tariff amount is the dominant component and is what this calculator estimates.
Rates entered here are editable estimates. Tariff rates change by executive order, court ruling or trade negotiation, and country-specific exclusions, quotas and safeguard mechanisms may apply. Always verify the current binding rate using the USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule (hts.usitc.gov) and CBP ACE before making sourcing or pricing decisions.
Vanliga frågor
US tariffs are legally paid by the US importer at the point of entry, not the foreign seller. Most importers pass the cost on through higher prices, so consumers and businesses that buy imported goods ultimately bear most of the burden, though the extent of pass-through depends on competition, margins, and whether substitutes exist.
Each product has a 10-digit HTS code. Look it up at hts.usitc.gov, then check whether any additional Section 301 (China), Section 232 (steel/aluminium/autos) or "reciprocal" tariffs apply. Country-specific additional rates stack on top of the base MFN general rate — the combined rate is what you should enter here.
No. Tariffs are border taxes on imports, collected once when goods enter the country. Sales tax and VAT are consumption taxes paid at the point of sale to end consumers. In the US there is no federal VAT, but state sales taxes may still apply to imported goods after the tariff is paid.
