Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Enter a start date, a number of working days N, and a direction. The calculator steps day by day, skipping Saturdays, Sundays, and any holidays you list, until it has counted N working days. It returns the resulting calendar date, its weekday, the total calendar days spanned, and how many weekend and holiday days were skipped.

Formula
Step one calendar day at a time from the start date; count only weekdays (Mon-Fri) that are not holidays until N are counted.
How this is calculated

You provide a start date (YYYY-MM-DD), a whole number N of business days, a direction (add to move forward, subtract to move backward), and an optional list of holiday dates. The start date itself is never counted as one of the business days.

The calculator walks one calendar day at a time in the chosen direction. On each step it checks the weekday: Saturday and Sunday are skipped, and any date matching your holiday list is also skipped. Only non-weekend, non-holiday days increment the counter. When the counter reaches N, the current date is the answer.

Dates are handled in UTC to avoid daylight-saving and timezone shifts, so each step is exactly 24 hours. "Calendar days spanned" is the total raw days between the start and result, while "weekend days skipped" and "holiday days skipped" report how many non-working days were passed over. If N is 0 the result equals the start date. N is truncated to a whole number, and holiday entries that are not valid YYYY-MM-DD dates are ignored.

Frequently asked questions

No. Counting begins on the next (or previous) day, so adding 1 business day to a Friday returns the following Monday.

Any valid YYYY-MM-DD date you list is treated like a weekend and skipped without being counted. Separate multiple dates with commas, spaces, or new lines.

It is the total number of actual days between the start date and the result, including the weekends and holidays that were skipped along the way.
