Convert to hertz
1 MHz × 1,000,000 = 1,000,000 Hz
1 MHz =
| Hertz | 1,000,000 Hz |
| Kilohertz | 1,000 kHz |
| Gigahertz | 0.001 GHz |
| Terahertz | 0.000001 THz |
| Revolutions per minute | 60,000,000 rpm |
Formula
How this is calculated
Frequency is the count of cycles or repetitions per unit of time, and the SI unit is the hertz (Hz), defined as one cycle per second. Every unit here is anchored to that base. The converter stores a "to-base" factor for each unit: 1 Hz = 1, 1 kHz = 1000 Hz, 1 MHz = 1,000,000 Hz, 1 GHz = 1,000,000,000 Hz and 1 THz = 1,000,000,000,000 Hz, each step being a factor of 1000.
The conversion runs in two steps. First the input value is multiplied by the source unit's to-base factor to express it in plain hertz, then that hertz figure is divided by the target unit's to-base factor to express it in the unit you want. Algebraically this collapses to value_to = value_from x (toBase_from / toBase_to).
Revolutions per minute (rpm) is handled the same way: since 60 revolutions in a minute equal one revolution per second, 1 rpm = 1/60 Hz. The math is exact linear scaling with no physics assumptions, so results are limited only by floating-point precision and the displayed rounding (6 significant decimals by default).
Frequently asked questions
One megahertz equals 1,000,000 hertz.
Divide revolutions per minute by 60 to get hertz, since one hertz equals 60 rpm.
Each step is a factor of 1000: 1 GHz = 1000 MHz = 1,000,000 kHz = 1,000,000,000 Hz.
