How does this calculator work?
Daily = rate × h/day; weekly = daily × days/week; annual = weekly × weeks/year; monthly = annual ÷ 12. At $25/h (8 h/day, 5 days, 52 weeks) that is $200/day → $1,000/week → $52,000/year → $4,333/month, all gross before tax.
Formula
How this is calculated
Starting from your hourly rate and daily hours, the daily gross is simply rate × hours per day. Multiplying by days per week gives the weekly figure. Annual gross is weekly × weeks worked — if you take two weeks of unpaid leave, use 50 instead of 52 weeks. Monthly pay is the annual total divided by 12, which correctly averages out months of different lengths.
Semi-monthly pay (24 periods per year) differs slightly from bi-weekly (26 periods per year): a $1,000/week earner receives $2,166.67 semi-monthly but $2,000 bi-weekly. Many payroll systems use one or the other, so it is important to know which your employer uses.
All results are gross figures before income tax, national insurance, pension or other statutory deductions. The actual take-home amount depends on your country, filing status, and employer benefits.
Frequently asked questions
Bi-weekly means paid every two weeks — 26 pay periods per year. Semi-monthly means paid twice per month (e.g. 1st and 15th) — 24 pay periods per year. The bi-weekly cheque is slightly smaller but you get two extra paycheques per year.
Multiply hourly rate × hours/day × days/week × weeks/year, then divide by 12. For $25/h at 8 h/day, 5 days/week, 52 weeks: ($25 × 8 × 5 × 52) ÷ 12 = $4,333.33/month.
