mL to oz Converter — Millilitres to Fluid or Weight Ounces
Convert millilitres (mL) to ounces in any form: US fluid ounces (volume), UK/Imperial fluid ounces (volume), or weight ounces (avoirdupois mass, requiring a density). Switch modes with the Convert to selector and get tablespoons, cups or pounds as secondary outputs.

How does this calculator work?
mL to US fl oz: divide by 29.574. mL to UK fl oz: divide by 28.413. mL to weight oz: multiply by density (g/mL) and divide by 28.350. For water at 100 mL: ≈3.38 US fl oz, ≈3.52 UK fl oz, or ≈3.53 oz by weight.
Formula
How this is calculated
There are two completely different "ounces" in common use, and mixing them up is a frequent source of error. A fluid ounce (fl oz) is a unit of volume: 1 US fl oz = 29.5735 mL and 1 UK/Imperial fl oz = 28.4131 mL. These two differ by about 4%, which matters in recipes and dosing. A weight ounce (oz, avoirdupois) is a unit of mass: 1 oz = 28.3495 g. Converting a volume to weight ounces requires the density of the liquid.
For the fluid-ounce conversions the calculation is straightforward division with no extra inputs. For weight ounces, the calculator first multiplies the volume by the substance density (g/mL) to get grams, then divides by 28.3495 g/oz. Water has a density of approximately 1.000 g/mL at 20 °C, so for water, 1 mL weighs about 1 g ≈ 0.0353 oz, and 1 fl oz of water weighs about 1.043 oz (the small difference comes from the volume-ounce definition being 29.574 mL).
Preset densities are approximate values at 20 °C and atmospheric pressure. If you need precise results for a specific formulation, use the Custom density option with a value from a certified datasheet. The UK fluid ounce is part of the Imperial system; the US fluid ounce was redefined in 1959 when the US customary and Imperial yard were aligned to the international yard, so their fluid ounces diverged further.
Frequently asked questions
Exactly 100 ÷ 29.5735 ≈ 3.381 US fluid ounces, or 100 ÷ 28.4131 ≈ 3.520 UK fluid ounces. The two systems give slightly different results, so always check which system a recipe or specification uses.
No. A fluid ounce (fl oz) is a volume unit; a weight ounce (oz) is a mass unit. For water, 1 US fl oz of water weighs about 1.041 oz (avoirdupois). For other liquids the relationship differs based on their density.
Use US fl oz for American recipes and product labels (1 US fl oz = 29.574 mL). Use UK/Imperial fl oz for British and Commonwealth recipes (1 UK fl oz = 28.413 mL). The difference is about 4%, which is noticeable in baking or pharmaceutical dosing.
