Pipe weight = π/4 × (OD² − ID²) × Length × Density. Enter outer diameter, wall thickness, pipe length and material (carbon steel, stainless, copper, aluminium, PVC, HDPE or custom). Get total weight in kg and lb and weight per metre.

How this is calculated
A pipe cross-section is an annulus (ring). Its area equals the outer circle area minus the inner circle area: A = π/4 × (OD² − ID²). Multiplying by the pipe length gives the wall volume in m³, and multiplying by the material density (kg/m³) gives the mass in kilograms.
The density values used are standard industry values: carbon steel 7 850 kg/m³, stainless steel 8 000, cast iron 7 200, copper 8 960, aluminium 2 700, PVC 1 400, HDPE 950, brass 8 530 and titanium 4 510 kg/m³. These are nominal values; actual density can vary by alloy grade and manufacturer — use the custom density option if your spec sheet gives a precise figure.
All inputs are accepted in mm, cm, m or inches and converted to metres internally. The result is shown in kilograms and converted to pounds. Weight per metre is also given for easy scaling to different pipe lengths.
Frequently asked questions
For metric pipes (ISO/EN), look up the pipe specification by nominal size and pressure rating. For imperial pipes (ASME/ANSI), look up the Schedule table (e.g. Schedule 40, 80) for your nominal pipe size — it lists OD and wall thickness. DN size is different from OD.
No — this calculator gives only the pipe wall weight (the structural material). To find the total weight of a water-filled pipe, use the pipe volume calculator to find the fluid volume, multiply by the fluid density (water ≈ 1 000 kg/m³) and add it to the pipe weight.
Data sheets often use slightly rounded density values or include weld seam allowances, mill tolerances and coating/lining weight. This calculator uses nominal densities and clean geometry, so minor differences (1–3%) are normal.
