How this is calculated

Density measures how much mass is packed into a given volume, so every unit here is a mass unit divided by a volume unit (for example kilograms per cubic meter, or pounds per cubic foot). To convert between any two of them, the tool first normalizes your input to a single base unit, the SI standard of kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3). Each unit carries a fixed "to-base" factor: 1 kg/m3 is the base (factor 1), 1 g/cm3 equals 1000 kg/m3, and 1 lb/ft3 equals about 16.0185 kg/m3.

The conversion is a single proportional scaling: it multiplies your value by the source unit factor to reach kg/m3, then divides by the target unit factor. Equivalently, value_to = value_from x (factor_from / factor_to). Because g/cm3, g/ml and kg/L all map to the same 1000 factor, they are numerically identical and convert one-to-one.

The factors are exact for metric units; the imperial ones (lb/ft3, lb/in3) come from the international pound and inch, so results are rounded to a few significant figures. The math is purely linear with no offset, so it assumes uniform density and makes no correction for temperature, pressure or material composition.
