Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Each character is replaced with its Unicode small-caps, superscript, or subscript equivalent; characters without a matching codepoint are left unchanged. Paste the result anywhere that accepts Unicode — no special fonts needed. Most a–z letters convert; digits convert fully in superscript/subscript mode.

Formula
Each character is looked up in a Unicode substitution map for the chosen style; characters without an equivalent codepoint are passed through unchanged.
How this is calculated

Unicode contains entire alphabets encoded at separate codepoints to serve specific typographic and scientific purposes — small capitals for linguistic transcription, superscript and subscript letters for chemistry, mathematics, and phonetics. This tool maps each character in your input to its closest Unicode equivalent in the chosen style and joins the result into a single copyable string.

Small caps replaces lowercase a–z with their Unicode small-capital forms (ᴀ–ᴢ). Superscript maps most Latin letters and all digits 0–9 to their raised equivalents (ᵃ–ᶻ, ⁰–⁹). Subscript covers digits and the limited subset of letters that have dedicated subscript codepoints in Unicode (₀–₉, ₐ, ₑ, ᵢ, etc.). Characters without a matching codepoint — most punctuation, accented letters, CJK — are passed through unchanged, which is why the conversion rate is typically below 100% for mixed input.

Because the output is plain Unicode text rather than an image or rich-text format, it renders correctly in any field that accepts Unicode: social media bios, messaging apps, plain-text emails, and even code comments. Screen readers may vocalise these codepoints differently or skip them, so use stylistic Unicode sparingly in accessibility-critical content.

Frequently asked questions

Unicode does not define small-caps, superscript, or subscript equivalents for every character. Accented letters, most punctuation, and non-Latin scripts have no matching codepoints, so those characters are passed through as-is. Digits convert fully in superscript and subscript mode; the small-caps map covers only a–z.

Yes — the result is plain Unicode text, not an image, so it works in any field that accepts Unicode: social media bios, captions, posts, and messaging apps all render it correctly without any special fonts.

Search engines generally index Unicode characters as their base Latin equivalents, so SEO impact is minimal. Screen readers, however, may vocalise small-cap codepoints by their Unicode name (e.g. "Latin letter small capital A") or skip them, which can hurt accessibility for visually impaired users. Use this style for decoration rather than essential content.
