How does this calculator work?
To find how much sod you need, multiply lawn length by width, then add about 5% for waste. Divide that area by your roll coverage (≈0.84 m²) and pallet coverage (≈45 m²), rounding up, to get rolls and pallets. Multiply the area by price for an estimated cost.

How this is calculated
Enter the length and width of the area you want to turf. Multiplying them gives the base lawn area. A waste allowance (default 5%) is added on top to cover the inevitable offcuts when trimming sod to fit around curves, beds, and edges, so the buying area is Length × Width × (1 + Waste/100).
Sod is sold both as individual rolls or slabs and as full pallets. A standard slab covers about 0.84 m² (roughly 9 sq ft) and a typical pallet covers about 45 m² (around 450 sq ft); both values are editable for your supplier. The number of rolls is the total area divided by the roll coverage, rounded up to a whole roll, and pallets are computed the same way with the pallet coverage. Rounding up ensures you never come up short.
Multiplying the total area by the price per unit area gives an estimated material cost. All length inputs must share the same units as the coverage and price (metres with m², or convert feet first). Edge cases: zero or negative dimensions and non-positive coverage values return no result, and an empty waste or price field is treated as zero.
