How this is calculated
Every speed unit is converted through a single SI base unit: meters per second (m/s). Each unit carries a fixed factor giving how many m/s equal one of that unit. The exact definitions are 1 km/h = 1000 m per 3600 s = 0.277778 m/s, 1 mph = 1609.344 m per 3600 s = 0.44704 m/s, 1 knot = 1 nautical mile (1852 m) per hour = 0.514444 m/s, and 1 ft/s = 0.3048 m/s (since 1 foot is defined as exactly 0.3048 m).
The conversion is two simple steps. First the input is scaled into the base unit: base = value times the source factor. Then it is scaled out of the base: result = base divided by the target factor. For example 100 km/h becomes 100 x 0.277778 = 27.7778 m/s, then divided by 0.44704 gives about 62.14 mph.
This is a pure linear, ratio-based conversion with no offset, so zero maps to zero and the math is exact apart from rounding the factors and the displayed result (6 decimals by default). It treats speed as a plain scalar magnitude and ignores direction, so it is not a vector velocity tool.
