How does this calculator work?
Area in square metres = length × width, with both measurements in metres. For other units enter them and the calculator converts first: 1 ft = 0.3048 m, 1 in = 0.0254 m, 1 yd = 0.9144 m. Results also include square feet (× 10.764), hectares (÷ 10,000) and an optional cost estimate.

How this is calculated
The calculator multiplies length by width to find the rectangular area, first converting both measurements to metres using exact SI and international-foot definitions. Metres to centimetres: divide by 100. Feet to metres: multiply by 0.3048. Inches to metres: multiply by 0.0254. Yards to metres: multiply by 0.9144. The resulting area is in square metres (m²).
From square metres the calculator derives related units: square feet (× 10.7639), square yards (× 1.1960), square inches (× 1,550), hectares (÷ 10,000) and acres (÷ 4,046.86). If you enter an optional price per square metre, total cost is simply area × price — useful for flooring, tiling, lawn turf or any material sold by the m².
Assumptions: the shape is a single rectangle. For L-shaped or irregular rooms, split them into rectangles, compute each, and add the results. All conversions use the exact international-foot definition (1 ft = 0.3048 m), so no rounding error is introduced by the unit conversion itself.
