Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Total seconds = Σ (h × 3600 + m × 60 + s) for each slot. Result shown as H:MM:SS, total minutes and total seconds. Add up to four time durations and see the combined total against a 24-hour timeline.

Formula
Total = Σ (hours × 3600 + minutes × 60 + seconds)
How this is calculated

Each time slot is converted to seconds: hours × 3600 + minutes × 60 + seconds. The four slots are summed, and the total seconds are converted back to hours, minutes and seconds for the H:MM:SS display. Total minutes = total seconds ÷ 60; total hours = total seconds ÷ 3600.

The timeline bar shows the combined duration as a proportion of a 24-hour day, giving a visual sense of scale — useful when summing shifts, project segments or training blocks.

Leave unused slots at 0 — they contribute nothing to the total. There is no upper limit on hours: the calculator handles multi-day totals (e.g. 48:30:00 for 48 hours and 30 minutes).

Frequently asked questions

The calculator handles four slots. For longer lists, add the first four and note the total, then enter that total as the first slot in a new calculation. Alternatively, break the list into groups and add the group totals at the end.

The inputs accept values over 59 and the math still works correctly — e.g. entering 90 minutes is treated as 90 × 60 = 5 400 seconds (1 hour 30 minutes). For cleaner input, keeping minutes and seconds in 0–59 is conventional.

Subtract the start time from the end time. For example 3:45 PM − 1:20 PM = 2 hours 25 minutes. Enter that difference (2h 25m 0s) as one of the duration slots.
