Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Enter each day’s clock-in, clock-out and break minutes. The tool sums worked hours, splits them into regular hours (up to your threshold) and overtime (1.5× rate), then computes gross pay as regular·rate plus overtime·rate·1.5. Defaults assume a 40-hour weekly overtime threshold.

Formula
worked = (clockOut − clockIn) − break; total = Σ worked; regular = min(total, threshold); overtime = max(0, total − threshold); gross = regular·rate + overtime·rate·1.5
How this is calculated

Enter one day per line as clock-in, clock-out and break minutes. Times use a 24-hour HH:MM format. For each day the calculator subtracts the clock-in time from the clock-out time to get the elapsed span, then subtracts the unpaid break (converted from minutes to hours) to get worked hours. If a clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the shift is assumed to cross midnight and 24 hours are added so overnight shifts total correctly.

The worked hours from every day are summed into the weekly total. Hours up to the overtime threshold (40 by default, matching the common U.S. weekly standard) are paid at the regular hourly rate. Any hours beyond the threshold are overtime, paid at 1.5× the rate. Gross pay is the sum of regular pay and overtime pay.

All pay figures use the hourly rate you supply in whatever currency you treat it as; results carry no tax, deductions or rounding to a pay period. Negative worked time is floored at zero, and blank or malformed lines make the result invalid so you can spot entry mistakes. The overtime threshold is configurable for daily-overtime or custom policies, though here it is applied to the full total of logged hours.

Frequently asked questions

The break value is treated as unpaid minutes and subtracted from each day’s elapsed time. A 30-minute lunch on an 8.5-hour span yields 8 paid hours.

Yes. If the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the calculator assumes the shift crosses midnight and adds 24 hours so the worked total is correct.

Hours above the overtime threshold (40 by default) are paid at 1.5× your hourly rate. Set the threshold to match your jurisdiction or employer policy.
