Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Wedding budget = Total × (Category % ÷ 100) per item. Default percentages — venue 30%, catering 35%, photography 12%, decor 10%, music 5%, attire 5% — match broad 2024 survey averages; edit any to suit your priorities. The remainder goes to "Other / misc", and all amounts always total your budget.

Formula
Category amount = Total budget × Category % ÷ 100. Unallocated = 100% − Σ(category %).
How this is calculated

Enter your total wedding budget — the maximum you plan to spend across all wedding costs. Then set the share you want each major category to take as a percentage. The default percentages reflect broad survey averages for weddings in many Western countries (2024 estimates): venue and catering together typically absorb 60–70% of the total, photography around 10–12%, with decor, music and attire sharing the remainder. These are editable estimates — your priorities and local market will vary considerably.

For each category the calculator multiplies the total budget by the percentage and divides by 100. The percentages need not add up to 100%; any unused portion is labeled "Other / misc" and covers items like honeymoon, invitations, rings insurance, favours, transport and contingency. If your percentages exceed 100%, a warning appears because the category amounts would together exceed your stated total.

The donut chart shows every category's share at a glance so you can see at once whether your split is realistic. Adjust the percentages until the amounts feel right, then use the stat grid as your planning reference.

Frequently asked questions

Survey data (US 2024) puts venue at 25–35%, catering 30–40%, photography 10–12%, flowers and decor 8–10%, music 4–8% and attire 4–6%. Percentages shift significantly by region, guest count and formality — the defaults here are starting points, not rules.

No. Any percentage remaining after the six named categories is shown as "Other / misc" to cover invitations, favours, transport, honeymoon and vendor tips. If you enter more than 100% total, the calculator warns you because the amounts would exceed your stated budget.

Yes. The calculator works with any currency — just enter your budget in the local currency. There is no currency conversion; all amounts are in the same currency as your input.
