¿Cómo funciona esta calculadora?

Gas cost = (Distance ÷ MPG) × Price per gallon for US vehicles, or (Distance × L/100 km ÷ 100) × Price per litre for metric. CO₂ emitted ≈ 8.89 kg per US gallon burned. The result is a trip planning estimate; actual consumption varies with speed, load and driving conditions.

Fórmula
Gallons = Distance ÷ MPG • L = Distance × (L/100 km) ÷ 100 • Cost = Fuel × Price
How this is calculated

The calculator works in two common fuel-efficiency formats. In MPG mode, it divides the trip distance in miles by the vehicle's miles-per-gallon rating to find the gallons consumed, then multiplies by the price per US gallon. In L/100 km mode, it multiplies distance (in km) by the L/100 km figure and divides by 100 to get litres, then multiplies by the price per litre.

CO₂ emissions are estimated using the US EPA figure of 8.887 kg of CO₂ per US gallon of gasoline burned (2.347 kg/L), which covers tailpipe emissions only and assumes a typical gasoline blend. Diesel and alternative fuels have different emission factors.

The estimate assumes constant fuel consumption across the entire trip. Real-world consumption varies with driving speed, traffic, load, air conditioning, tyre pressure and terrain — treat the result as a reliable planning estimate rather than a guaranteed fuel bill.

Preguntas frecuentes

MPG (US) = 235.214 ÷ (L/100 km). For example, 7 L/100 km equals about 33.6 MPG.

It uses the EPA tailpipe figure of 8.887 kg CO₂ per US gallon of gasoline (2.347 kg/L). This covers combustion only — lifecycle emissions including fuel production are higher, typically 15–20 % more.

Convert km/L to L/100 km by dividing 100 by the km/L value. For example, 15 km/L = 100 ÷ 15 ≈ 6.67 L/100 km.
