Miten tämä laskin toimii?
The wave equation v = f × λ connects wave speed, frequency, and wavelength. Pick the unknown and enter the other two: multiply frequency by wavelength for speed, divide speed by wavelength for frequency, or divide speed by frequency for wavelength. Use SI units (m/s, Hz, m) for consistent answers.

How this is calculated
The wave equation links a wave’s speed (v, in metres per second), its frequency (f, in hertz — cycles per second), and its wavelength (λ, in metres) through v = f × λ. Choose which quantity to solve for, then enter the two known values; the calculator rearranges the relation and reports the third along with a summary of all three.
When solving for speed it multiplies frequency by wavelength. When solving for frequency it divides speed by wavelength, and when solving for wavelength it divides speed by frequency. Division cases require the denominator to be non-zero, so a zero wavelength (for frequency) or zero frequency (for wavelength) returns no result.
The formula assumes a single sinusoidal wave travelling through a uniform, non-dispersive medium where speed is constant. Real media can be dispersive (speed varies with frequency), and the wave speed itself depends on the medium — for example sound travels at roughly 343 m/s in air at 20°C, while light travels at about 3×10⁸ m/s in vacuum. Keep all inputs in SI units (m/s, Hz, m) for consistent results.
Usein kysytyt kysymykset
The wave equation v = f × λ states that a wave’s speed equals its frequency multiplied by its wavelength. It applies to sound, light, water, and other periodic waves.
Rearrange to f = v / λ: divide the wave speed by the wavelength. For example, a 343 m/s sound wave with a 1.34 m wavelength has a frequency of about 256 Hz.
In an ideal non-dispersive medium, no — speed is set by the medium, so raising frequency shortens wavelength proportionally. In dispersive media, speed can vary with frequency.
