Как работает этот калькулятор?

GWA = Σ(grade × units) ÷ Σ(units) on the Philippine 1.0–5.0 scale (1.0 is best, 3.0 is the minimum passing grade, 5.0 is failing). Enter each subject grade and credit units; subjects with more units pull the GWA more. Honor thresholds (typical): Cum Laude ≤ 1.75, Magna Cum Laude ≤ 1.45, Summa Cum Laude ≤ 1.20.

Формула
GWA = Σ(grade × units) ÷ Σ(units)
How this is calculated

The Philippine General Weighted Average (GWA) is a credit-unit-weighted mean of all subject grades in a semester or an entire academic program. Each grade is multiplied by the number of credit units for that subject (the weight), the products are summed, and the total is divided by the sum of all units. Subjects with more units — typically major courses — therefore have a greater influence on the GWA than minor or elective subjects with fewer units.

Grades follow the Philippine point scale: 1.0 is the highest (equivalent to A+/97–100%), 1.25, 1.5 and 1.75 are excellent, 2.0 is good (85–87%), 2.25–2.75 are satisfactory to near-passing, 3.0 is the lowest passing mark (75%), and 5.0 is a failing grade. Incomplete (INC) and dropped (DRP) subjects are typically excluded from the GWA computation until resolved.

Honor standing thresholds are guidelines based on typical CHED (Commission on Higher Education) and university policies as of 2024: Summa Cum Laude ≤ 1.20, Magna Cum Laude ≤ 1.45, Cum Laude ≤ 1.75. Individual institutions set their own exact thresholds and may also require a minimum number of units completed within the school and no failing grades or disciplinary action. Always verify with your Registrar's Office.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

It depends on your university's policy. Most institutions include all formally enrolled subjects with assigned units, including failed (5.0) grades. Some exclude physical education, NSTP, or subjects taken as an auditor. Check your Registrar's guidelines — repeated subjects may be treated differently, too.

Typical CHED guidelines set Cum Laude at a GWA of 1.75 or lower (on the 1.0–5.0 scale), Magna Cum Laude at 1.45 or lower, and Summa Cum Laude at 1.20 or lower. However, individual universities often set stricter thresholds and additional requirements such as minimum residency units and no failing grades.

Both are credit-unit-weighted averages. The key difference is the scale: Philippine GWA uses a 1.0–5.0 scale (lower is better), while the US GPA uses a 4.0 scale (higher is better). The underlying formula — Σ(grade × units) / Σ(units) — is identical.
