Enter any temperature in Fahrenheit and instantly see the equivalent in Celsius, Kelvin, and Rankine — with a visual reference scale showing key benchmarks.
°F
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
- 1
Subtract the Fahrenheit offset
72 − 32 = 40 - 2
Scale to Celsius (× 5 ÷ 9)
40 × 5 ÷ 9 = 22,2222
Ako táto kalkulačka funguje?
Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit value and multiply by 5/9 to get Celsius. Add 273.15 to Celsius for Kelvin, or add 459.67 to °F for Rankine. The scales converge at −40 degrees: −40 °F = −40 °C. Key references: 32 °F = 0 °C (freezing), 98.6 °F = 37 °C (body temp), 212 °F = 100 °C (boiling).
Vzorec
How this is calculated
The Fahrenheit scale was established in the early 18th century and remains the primary temperature unit in the United States. Its two defining reference points are the freezing point of water (32 °F) and its boiling point (212 °F) at standard pressure, which places body temperature at approximately 98.6 °F. Converting to Celsius requires first removing the 32-degree offset and then scaling by 5/9 because one Celsius degree spans 9/5 of a Fahrenheit degree.
Kelvin is the absolute thermodynamic scale: it has the same degree size as Celsius but starts at absolute zero (−273.15 °C). To convert from Fahrenheit, convert to Celsius first and then add 273.15. Rankine is the absolute scale that uses the same degree size as Fahrenheit; it starts at absolute zero expressed in Fahrenheit-sized degrees, so °R = °F + 459.67.
All four conversions are exact mathematical definitions — no measured constants or approximations enter the maths. The only source of error is display rounding, shown here to four decimal places.
Často kladené otázky
98.6 °F equals exactly 37 °C, the normal human body temperature. The conversion is (98.6 − 32) × 5/9 = 66.6 × 5/9 = 37 °C.
The two scales intersect at −40 degrees: −40 °F equals exactly −40 °C. This is the only point where both readings are identical.
First convert to Celsius with °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9, then add 273.15 to get Kelvin. Alternatively, K = (°F + 459.67) × 5/9.
