Як працює цей калькулятор?

Multiply length × width × thickness (all in metres) to get the volume in cubic metres, then multiply by the asphalt density (typically 2.4 t/m³ for compacted hot-mix) to get the tonnage to order. A standard 5 cm driveway layer requires about 1.2 tonnes per square metre.

Формула
Volume (m³) = Length × Width × Thickness • Weight (tonnes) = Volume × Density (t/m³)
How this is calculated

The calculator treats the paving area as a rectangular slab. It converts all dimensions to metres — imperial feet are multiplied by 0.3048 and inches by 0.0254, while metric centimetres are divided by 100 — so that length, width and thickness share one unit. Multiplying the three gives the volume in cubic metres, which is also shown in cubic yards (1 m³ ≈ 1.308 yd³).

To convert volume to the weight you actually order, the volume is multiplied by the asphalt density. Compacted hot-mix asphalt (HMA) typically weighs 2.2–2.5 t/m³; the default is 2.4 t/m³, a commonly cited figure for standard dense-grade mix. The actual density depends on aggregate type, bitumen content, compaction level and temperature, so adjust the density field to match your mix specification if you have one. Weight in metric tonnes is also shown in US short tons (1 tonne ≈ 1.102 short tons).

Thickness guidance: a residential driveway surface layer is usually 4–8 cm (1.5–3 in); a road base course is 8–15 cm (3–6 in); light commercial areas often use two layers totalling 10–20 cm. Always order 5–10% extra to account for waste, edges and settling. If you enter a price per tonne, the calculator also estimates the material cost, but does not include labour or plant hire.

Поширені запитання

At 2.4 t/m³, one tonne covers about 0.417 m³. At a 5 cm depth that is about 8.3 m². At 4 cm it covers about 10.4 m². The exact area depends on the mix density and compaction.

A typical residential driveway uses a 4–8 cm (1.5–3 in) surface course of hot-mix asphalt over a compacted aggregate base. Commercial driveways and roads use thicker, multi-layer structures.

Asphalt is almost always sold by weight (tonnes or US tons). This calculator converts your area and thickness into the weight you need to order.
