Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Total beach day cost = transport + parking + sunscreen + rental + (food + drinks + activities) × people. Divide by people for cost per person. Use the donut chart to spot the biggest category and where you can save. Default inputs give a two-person beach day at roughly $130 total.

Formula
Total = transport + parking + sunscreen + rental + (food + drinks + activities) × people • Cost per person = total ÷ people
How this is calculated

A beach day involves two kinds of costs: shared costs that the whole group splits once (transport, parking, sunscreen, chair and umbrella rental) and per-person costs that multiply with headcount (food, drinks, activities). This calculator applies that distinction so the scaling is accurate — shared items are added flat, per-person items are multiplied by the number of people before being summed.

All amounts are entered in your local currency — the $ symbol is a placeholder. The donut chart shows which categories dominate your spend, which often highlights easy savings: free street parking versus paid lots, packed lunches versus beach-vendor prices, or skipping single-use sunscreen in favour of one shared bottle.

The figures are editable estimates — prices vary by location, season and vendor. Swap in real local prices for the most accurate result, or leave the defaults in place for a rough ballpark before you arrive.

Frequently asked questions

Costs vary widely by location. A state-park beach in the US might cost $20–40 per person for food and drinks with free parking; a resort beach in Europe or the Caribbean can exceed $100–150 per person once sun-bed rental, meals and drinks are included.

Shared costs are paid once for the group: transport, parking, sunscreen and equipment rental. Per-person costs scale with headcount: food, drinks and paid activities. This calculator handles both categories automatically.

This calculator covers day-trip costs only. For overnight trips, divide nightly accommodation by the number of people and add the result to the transport field, or use a separate hotel or vacation-cost calculator.
