Price Per Square Inch Calculator
Enter the price, width and height of any rectangular item to find its cost per square inch — the fairest way to compare products of different sizes when you are paying for area.

How does this calculator work?
Price per sq in = price ÷ (width × height in inches). A $12.99 print measuring 16 × 12 in covers 192 sq in and costs $0.0677 per sq in ($12.99 ÷ 192). Compare any two sizes by calculating each one's per-square-inch price — the lower number gives more area for your money.
Formula
How this is calculated
Many products are priced by the whole item even though what you are really buying is area. A 10-inch pizza at $8.99 and a 14-inch pizza at $12.99 have very different sticker prices, but when you divide by the number of square inches (π × r²), the larger pizza often works out to less per square inch. This calculator uses the simpler rectangular area formula (width × height) and is best for square, rectangular or approximately rectangular items: prints, photos, panels, tiles, screens, sandwiches, or canvas art.
The area in square inches is computed as width × height. Dividing the price by that area gives the price per square inch. The calculator also converts this to price per square foot (multiply by 144, since 1 sq ft = 144 sq in) and price per square centimetre (divide by 6.4516, since 1 sq in = 6.4516 sq cm), making it useful alongside metric-labelled products.
For circular items like pizzas, the area formula is π × radius² — this calculator does not handle that automatically. Use the actual area if you know it, or enter an equivalent rectangle. All calculations assume the item is a simple flat rectangle with uniform dimensions.
Frequently asked questions
Pizza is round, so the correct area formula is π × r² — this calculator uses width × height for rectangular items. For a rough comparison enter the diameter as both width and height (a square of the diameter gives an area about 27% larger than the actual circle, but the ratio is consistent across sizes so the comparison is still valid for ranking).
Multiply by 144, since there are 144 square inches in a square foot. The calculator shows this conversion automatically in the secondary stats.
Prints, photo prints, canvas art, advertising panels, tile samples, cutting boards, solar panels, window glass, and any flat rectangular product sold in different size options. For products priced by weight or volume, use the price-per-ounce or price-per-pound calculators instead.
