Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

List each subscription with its amount and billing period. The calculator normalizes every entry to a monthly cost (weekly ×4.33, monthly ×1, annual ÷12), sums them for your monthly total, and multiplies by 12 for the yearly total, then breaks the spending down by service.

Formula
monthlyTotal = Σ (amount × factor) [weekly ×4.33, monthly ×1, annual ÷12]; yearlyTotal = monthlyTotal × 12
How this is calculated

Enter one subscription per line in the format 'name amount period'. The name can contain spaces; the last two tokens are read as the amount and the billing period. If only an amount is given, the period defaults to monthly.

Each subscription is normalized to a monthly cost so totals are comparable. Weekly charges are multiplied by 4.33 (the average number of weeks in a month), monthly charges are kept as-is, and annual or yearly charges are divided by 12. The monthly total is the sum of all normalized amounts, and the yearly total is that monthly figure multiplied by 12.

Amounts are treated as plain currency numbers, so use a single currency throughout for meaningful totals. Lines that lack a numeric amount are skipped. The 4.33 weekly factor is an average, so weekly-billed services will vary slightly month to month depending on how many billing dates fall in a given month.

Frequently asked questions

Use 'name amount period', for example 'Streaming 15.99 monthly'. Period can be weekly, monthly, or annual. If you omit the period, monthly is assumed.

A year has about 52.14 weeks, which is roughly 4.33 weeks per month on average. Using this factor converts a weekly charge into a fair monthly equivalent.

No. The calculator sums the numbers as-is, so enter all amounts in the same currency to get accurate monthly and yearly totals.
